Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to COM, CON, and COSH faculty and program directors in utilizing simulation to enhance learner competence across programs.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to transition and integrate simulation departments into the new Health Professional Education Building (HPEB).
  • Apply Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) standards and best practices to expand simulation activities, including faculty development.
  • Oversee acquisition of SSH Full Accreditation for CDU Simulation Centers.
  • Partner with faculty to develop scholarly activities (research, quality improvement, curriculum standardization) that evaluate simulation’s impact on healthcare education.
  • Train faculty and staff in the use of mannequins and simulation equipment.
  • Collaborate with program directors in Virtual Anatomy, Medical Education Technology, and Simulation Innovation to manage fiscal and strategic processes.
  • Develop and maintain CDU Simulation Center policies, procedures, and quality assurance plans to ensure safe, consistent operations.
  • Represent CDU Simulation Centers at national conferences and organizations to enhance visibility.
  • Prepare and analyze data and fiscal reports for the Provost and Deans to support budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Administer simulation surveys to students and faculty to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead simulation-related committees, including the Simulation Education and Simulation Leadership Committees.
  • Oversee simulation scheduling via Ad Astra and establish clear communication methods for room and activity coordination.
  • Enforce national discipline‑specific standards during faculty development in collaboration with COM, CON, and COSH.
  • Establish position metrics and develop an organizational chart to clarify simulation staff roles and responsibilities.
  • Evaluate simulation staff performance, provide feedback, and conduct annual reviews to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Direct inventory management systems to ensure availability and maintenance of supplies, equipment, and mannequins.
  • Develop short‑ and long‑term goals to ensure timely, high‑fidelity execution of simulation activities.
  • Oversee purchasing and resource forecasting related to simulation activities and equipment for COM, CON, and COSH.
  • Support recruitment and supervision of simulation technician staff, including performance feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost.
Qualifications
  • Education: Regionally accredited doctoral degree required; and/or equivalent of combined education and experience in the related field. A terminal clinical degree is preferred.
  • National certification (e.g., Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, Certified Healthcare Simulation Operational Specialist).
  • Basic Life Support AHA Certification.
  • Experience: More than 5 years simulation experience in an education or university program.
  • Experience teaching, advising, and mentoring students.
  • Management experience in an educational setting.
  • Five years of supervisory experience, including directing the workflow of professional‑level staff, goal‑setting activities, and process management.
  • Effective leadership attributes and demonstrated competence in leading teams to optimal levels of performance and goal attainment:
    • Drives performance by holding self and others accountable for achieving goals.
    • Provides timely, direct, and relevant feedback.
    • Promotes excellence and encourages participation in CDU's activities.
  • Experience working with national accreditation agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, managing, and evaluating simulation activities, curriculum, and/or programs.
  • Evidence of scholarly activities such as research and/or quality improvement initiatives focused on simulation.
