This position offers a collaboration between Dr. Shlomo Melmed and Dr. Cuiqi Zhou. The research focus of Dr. Melmed is molecular pathogenesis of pituitary tumors and pituitary receptor signaling.
He employs molecular, cellular, transgenic animal and human tissue models to understand the biology of these commonly encountered hormone-secreting adenomas. Dr. Zhou conducts research on the novel actions of pituitary-derived exosomes, using cellular and animal models as well as human iPSC-differentiated pituitary organoids.
This position involves working under direct supervision to perform routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks, develop technical expertise, and participate in all aspects of the research process, including investigation, technical work, testing/validation of results, and reporting findings. The RA II will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols to support laboratory research projects, observe and follow safety standards, assist in data preparation for publications/presentations, and help maintain the laboratory.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
- Designs new complex or unusual protocols and techniques.
- Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, and assists in identifying and troubleshooting unexpected results.
- Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.
- Maintains lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment.
- Assists in the operation of specialized equipment as required by the area of research.
- Orients research laboratory assistants or lower level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related field.
Experience and Skills:
- One year of laboratory experience, required.
- Experience with routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.
