Laboratory Assistant – HC3 Outpatient Blood Draw (Part‑time, 8‑hour days)

Join Veterans in Healthcare as a Laboratory Assistant to procure blood samples from patients, preserve specimen integrity, and handle processing and distribution of all samples. This position supports the department’s clinical and clerical functions including telephone inquiries, report dissemination, and communication with referral laboratories.

• Obtain blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods with appropriate consideration for patient age.
• Screen specimens for acceptability per established guidelines.
• Deliver blood products to Surgery and deliver surgical specimens to appropriate Laboratory sections.
• Process, distribute, and package all specimens received (except Anatomic Pathology samples).
• Handle inquiries for lab results, specimen status, and general departmental information.
• Communicate professionally with patients, coworkers, and guests, considering patient age and sensitivity.
• Adhere to Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures.
• Carry out additional clinical and clerical duties as needed to meet departmental needs.
• Maintain professional growth; participate in Department’s Quality Improvement program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• One year of phlebotomy experience, preferably in an acute‑care setting.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in phlebotomy in an acute‑care facility (preferred).

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician – CPT (CA DPH).
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – required within 30 days if not already held.

Hourly rate range: $23.00 – $39.10.
