Job DescriptionThe Health Information Department’s Health Information Technician II (HIT II) is responsible for specialized health information activities related to the maintenance, privacy, and use of electronic and paper patient records. At this level, success requires high customer service, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to interpret and explain policies and regulatory requirements regarding chart documentation, privacy, and release of information.
Responsibilities- Address customer inquiries for patient information, assist callers with record requests, and provide general customer service. Educate customers on confidentiality and privacy regulations.
- Prioritize and process multiple customer requests from various sources, completing them within required response time‑frames and in accordance with state, federal, and HIPAA regulations.
- Analyze and prepare deficiency reports, research, add providers, update provider demographic information, and resolve duplicate provider identifiers across multiple systems.
- Assist physicians in navigating systems and completing record/documentation requirements, ensuring compliance with regulatory, Joint Commission, Title 22, and organizational standards. Notify physicians who are non‑compliant and pending suspension.
- Respond to internal and external requests for assistance. Monitor daily compliance with documentation completion timeliness standards, query and research hospital systems to assess adherence, and track work queue status.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or college courses in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Health Information, Medical Records, or a related field.
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential preferred.
- Strong medical terminology skills.
- Basic knowledge of ICD‑10.
- Attention to detail, advanced decision‑making, and high analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Detailed knowledge of medical record content, chart organization, documentation, and privacy regulatory standards.
- Strong customer service, communication skills, and English language proficiency; bilingual preferred.
- Data analysis and research skills for error corrections.
- Knowledge of EMR, EPIC, and hospital computer systems such as MSOW.
