Residential Assistant – Valverde House

Reports To:
House Manager
Compensation: $17.87 - $20.40 per hour
Schedule:
1 NOC Shift (10:00 PM – 6:00 AM); 2 Evening Shifts (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
Note:
This role belongs to Exceptional Children’s Foundation (ECF). Pay range information provided by ECF; your final pay will be based on skills and experience. Talk with your recruiter to learn more.
- Under supervision, assist in ensuring the 24-hour residential home is physically maintained and meet the day-to-day needs of residents in accordance with ECF policy and regulatory licensing requirements.
- Attend to residents’ personal needs with respect and care, including hygiene, dressing, and assistance with daily chores (e.g., laundry, changing bedding) as per Individual Service Plan (ISP).
- Supervise meal preparation and dining to adhere to menus and encourage family-style dining.
- Follow Individual Program Plan (IPP) objectives; contribute to progress reporting and communicate with Residential Manager and consultants.
- Administer medications per policy; report discrepancies to the RN and QIDP immediately.
- Interact with residents on-site and during community activities; transport residents using a 12-15 passenger van and assist with transfers using proper body mechanics.
- Maintain a clean and well-maintained residence by following the cleaning schedule and performing household tasks as assigned.
- Experience:
Two years direct service with a population with special needs. - Reading, writing, and English comprehension proficiency.
- Basic knowledge of residential home operations.
- Knowledge of applicable regulations (DOH, DDS Title 17, DSS Title 22) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to recognize and respond to Universal Safety signs; effective verbal and written communication.
- Driving is an essential function. Must have a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, proof of insurance, and an insurable driving record. Employer provides secondary coverage while employee’s is primary.
- Obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and NCI certifications.
- Obtain and maintain medication administration certification.
- Pre-employment physical and annual physicals; negative TB test required initially and annually.
- Maintain professional appearance per ECF dress code.
ICF/DDN licensed group home for adults with developmental and physical disabilities. Workers may encounter residents in crisis or displaying distress; environment may include interruptions, loud noise, and varying temperatures. Some driving in diverse weather conditions.
Physical RequirementsThe job requires physical capabilities to perform essential duties and reasonable accommodations may be provided. Examples include:
- Ability to implement NCI, First Aid, and CPR.
- Ability to move and transfer at least 50 lbs; assist with transfers using appropriate equipment.
- Operate medical equipment (e.g., Hoyer Lift, hospital bed, wheelchair scale).
- Change adult briefs and manage colostomy bags.
- Physical stamina for sitting, standing, walking, lifting, reaching, and repetitive motions; operate various devices.
- Safely operate 12-15 passenger vans and wheelchair vans for resident transportation.
