Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. ABOUT THE POSITIONDefinition:
Under direction, coordinates the credentialing program for the appointment of medical practitioners to the medical staff of a hospital or clinic and ensures compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Evaluates completed credentialing and proctoring documents submitted by Credentialing Specialists, ensures summary report of applications including all relevant information regarding education, licensure and work history. Identifies inconsistencies in information being collected by staff, ensures any judgments, settlements or adverse actions are documented; conducts follow-ups. Presents completed documents to the Credentialing Committee and Chair for review and recommendation.
- Attends Committee meetings and presents completed medical staff and allied health practitioner credentialing and proctoring files. Ensures all appropriate forms and signatures are signed by the Professional Staff Association (PSA) President, Hospital Medical Director and Hospital Administrator. Submits signed New Membership and/or Reappointment recommendations to the Governing Body.
- Prepares meeting notices, minutes, agendas and status reports for committee meetings; conducts meeting follow-ups, tracks actions and assignments to ensure completion; ensures committee actions are distributed to hospital staff in a timely manner.
- Conducts routine internal audits of the review process to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies; assures credential files are prepared and maintained in a confidential manner in accordance with documentation requirements outlined by Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agencies and develops corrective action plans for deficiencies as noted in the audit report.
- Monitors National Practitioner Data Bank reports and maintains integrity of the database by randomly conducting cross-checks of data, ensures updates reflect the current status of medical staff members and their approved clinical privileges.
- Guides and trains staff on appropriate credentialing policies and proper primary source verification procedures of the practitioners' education, licensure, employment history, professional liability and references.
- Plans, directs, and oversees the Credentialing Unit. Supervises staff involved in the verification process of credentialing and privileging applications.
