Coordinator of Eye Care Services (
2080 Century Park E, Los Angeles, CA 90067
)
Salary Range: $21 – $26 per hour
Schedule:
Full‑time
To support the delivery of patient care services and clinical education through the management of optical services, optometric assisting, and billing at Western
U Health Eye Care Institute (ECI).
Optical Technician
- Provides direct patient care for spectacle frame and lens selection, fitting, ordering, verification, and dispensing. Assists and triages patients with ophthalmic material concerns; performs basic frame repairs.
- Assists patients in selecting ophthalmic materials, performs measurements, completes ordering, and inputs information into the EHR system.
- Verifies accuracy of received ophthalmic materials, notifies patients of receipt, and dispenses and adjusts materials.
- Implements business aspects of the optical service, including stocking, ordering, inventory, display, and direct/third‑party billing.
- Under optometrist supervision, assists patients in selecting low‑vision assistive devices and provides training on their use.
- Completes documentation for spectacle, contact lens, and custom low‑vision device orders; coordinates scheduling for contact lens dispensing.
- Provides basic frame repairs and assists with pre‑testing procedures/measurements.
- Offers clinical education in optical services to students enrolled in the College of Optometry.
Administration/Billing
- Calibrates, cleans, and maintains ophthalmic equipment and instruments; stocks exam rooms with supplies.
- Completes monthly inventory and submits resupply information to the Director of Operations.
- Manages optical invoices and assists with payment processes for the Department of Rehabilitation Services.
- Performs other duties as assigned; the institution reserves the right to alter duties.
Clinical Front Office
- Schedules appointments and verifies insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Completes patient check‑in procedures, assisting with registration forms and paperwork.
- Collects patient payments, issues receipts, and posts payments into the EHR system.
- Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, EMR/EHR systems). Ability to learn additional software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; culturally sensitive and confidential.
- Effective at prioritizing and completing complex, time‑sensitive tasks.
- Knowledge of optical services and business practices.
- Knowledge of safe handling and use of ophthalmic equipment.
- Mathematical ability: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentage calculation.
- Leadership skills; able to manage crises, calm upset customers, and interact with senior executives.
- Multitasking in a fast‑paced environment and flexible with job assignments.
- Basic knowledge of optical service terminology and optometric patient care terminology.
- Education:
Graduate Equivalency Diploma or High School Diploma. - Experience:
3–5 years in an optometric clinical practice or institutional setting, or equivalent combination. - Certified optician or paraoptometric technician preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.
