The responsibilities of the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:

• Conduct resident screenings (without interpretation) as permitted by state practice act.
• Assist residents with rehabilitative activities and exercises as outlined in a treatment plan developed in collaboration with an occupational therapist.
• Monitor individuals’ activities to ensure they are performed correctly and provide encouragement as needed.
• Record residents’ progress for use by the occupational therapist.
• May assist with scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, restocking or ordering supplies, and completing insurance forms or other paperwork.
• Provide training to residents, caregivers, and families according to the Occupational Therapist’s care plan.
• Complete required forms and documentation in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations.

Experience and Skills:

• Associate’s Degree from an AOTA accredited program.
• Licensed COTA, if required by state law.

Physical Demands and Environment:

• Shift work may be required.
• Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers, reach with hands and arms, feel, see, talk, and hear.
• Employee may occasionally assist in lifting and/or transferring patients weighing between 100 to 250 pounds.
• Employee may be occasionally exposed to blood or other body fluids, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• In compliance with applicable law, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
