We are seeking a Program Director for our Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship. Position Summary

The Program Director (PD) of the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship serves as the academic and administrative leader for all aspects of the fellowship program within the Department of Anesthesiology at Cedars‑Sinai. The PD leads all educational, clinical, and administrative aspects of the fellowship, including curriculum design, recruitment, faculty engagement, scholarly activity oversight, and program evaluation. In collaboration with departmental and institutional leadership, the PD ensures alignment with ACGME standards, departmental objectives, and the broader academic mission of Cedars‑Sinai.

The position plays a critical role in fostering an inclusive, supportive, and academically rigorous learning environment, advancing fellow wellness, mentorship, and professional development while positioning the program for regional and national recognition in graduate medical education and clinical excellence.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Establish and execute annual program goals in alignment with departmental, institutional, and ACGME priorities.
  • Lead the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellows per year.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the fellowship’s didactic, clinical, and asynchronous curriculum.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) and Clinical Competency Committee (CCC), ensuring timely fellow milestone evaluations, annual program review, and action plans.
  • Directly supervise and mentor fellows, promoting clinical, academic, and professional excellence.
  • Implement policies and procedures for fellows that align with the institutional and program requirements for duty hours and the working environment, including moonlighting.
  • Encourage and support fellows in research with the objective of participation in local and national conferences, as well as publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Verify training and credentialing documentation for all fellowship graduates.
  • Collaborate with department leadership on initiatives advancing cardiothoracic anesthesia and echocardiography education, innovation, and quality improvement.
  • Lead faculty development initiatives specific to fellowship education and mentorship and approve the continued participation of teaching attendings based on evaluation.
  • Maintain program compliance with ACGME and institutional accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Prepare and submit all information required and requested by the ACGME, including but not limited to the program application forms and annual program updates to the Accreditation Data System (ADS).
  • Obtain review and approval of the sponsoring institution’s GMEC/DIO before submitting information or requests to the ACGME.
  • Respond promptly to requests for information and updates from the ACGME or GME Office and implement any appropriate Program Improvement Plans based on accreditation site visits, internal review recommendations and the Annual Program Evaluation Process (APE).
  • Respond appropriately to ACGME Fellow Survey results.
  • Comply with institutional requirements regarding timeliness and content of the Annual Program Review, APE, or other required documents.
  • Comply with all Cedars-Sinai, GME, SF Match and ACGME policies and ACGME institutional and program requirements and deadlines.
