Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Semel Institute is seeking an experienced Administrator to support the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC) within the Department of Psychiatry.

Reporting to the Department Chief(s) and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Administrator serves as the primary HR and administrative lead for a dynamic, research-intensive academic unit. This role oversees a broad portfolio of responsibilities and exercises independent judgment to support the efficient and compliant operation of the Center.

The Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring operational excellence across the unit’s business functions, in alignment with CAO guidance.

This is a rehire limited 1 year appointment role at 43% FTE through January 19, 2027.

Hourly: $36.49-$76.05

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Required
  • Minimum of 3 years as a project lead in a business/admin unit within a basic science/clinical department or service line
  • Understanding of the concepts of strategic leadership, planning and change management approaches in a complex environment, preferably a research-intensive medical school/health system.
  • Ability to demonstrate an entry level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing people at various levels to achieve results.
  • Ability to identify and analyze pertinent information/data to make and communicate recommendations and decisions. .
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability as a partner to maintain a culture of integrity and accountability.
  • Understanding of financial planning concepts as it pertains to academic health care, research and higher education.
  • Ability to serve as a receptive listener and seeks to understand the differing sides of each situation.
