Head, Medical Radiation Physicist

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Medical Radiation Physics Section Chief.

Administers and directs a medical radiation physics section providing consultative services to physicians engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of Medical Radiation Physicists in the preparation of treatment plans, computation of dose rates, and dose distribution patterns for the treatment of patients by external beam therapy and radioactive source therapy.

• Prepares and justifies the personnel, equipment, and space budget and reviews specifications for new equipment.
• Administers and directs the development and use of computer systems and programs for the resolution of spatial and treatment problems in radiation beam therapy.
• Acts as the LA General Medical Center Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or assigns duties to qualified subordinate staff as needed.
• Directs the radiation safety program at the Medical Center in compliance with governing legal regulations and policies established by the Medical Center Radiation Safety Committee.

A Ph.D. in physics, biophysics, or medical physics, and five years' experience in the physics of radiation therapy, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, and hospital safety.

This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting.

• American Board of Radiology (A ) Certification.
