Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Advanced Spaceborne Hardware‑Software to pioneer the next generation of space computing platforms. This job lies at the intersection of modern computing and modern software. We are moving beyond the legacy era of “flight software” written in bare‑metal C; we are building the foundation for spaceborne data centers that run containerized workloads on orbit. The ideal candidate is a hybrid engineer: someone with a background in modern full‑stack software development, containerization, and deployment, who also possesses deep familiarity with radiation‑hardened and tolerant electronics.

You understand why running Kubernetes in LEO is difficult not just because of latency, but because of memory bit‑flips and thermal constraints.

You will be joining the Advanced Technology Development team, a specialized unit within our Strategic Growth and Technology Organization. This team is responsible for defining and developing Voyager’s future technologies, with a relentless focus on high‑impact, high‑ROI technology and product research and development. Our technology portfolio spans the totality of Voyager’s capabilities and beyond—we are tasked with creating both leap‑ahead capabilities in existing technology areas and strategically moving into and developing foundational technology in new, uncharted areas.

Responsibilities
  • Architect Spaceborne Container Platforms:
Lead the design and implementation of container orchestration systems (Kubernetes, K3s, Open Shift) optimized for resource‑constrained, radiation‑prone space environments. Define how we deploy, manage, and update stateless applications on orbit.
  • Hardware‑Software Co‑Design:
Collaborate with hardware engineers to select and validate modern chipsets (SoCs, FPGAs, GPUs) for space use. Participate in trade studies evaluating reliability vs. performance, ensuring that software stack can handle the unique fault modes of commercial silicon in space.
  • Fault‑Tolerant System Design:
Develop software reliability strategies that mitigate hardware faults. Designing “software scrubbing” routines, watchdog hierarchies, and redundant voting logic to keep the system running even when hardware takes a hit.
  • Edge Inferencing & Compute:
Enable high‑performance edge computing by optimizing ML inference engines and data processing pipelines to run directly on the spacecraft, reducing downlink requirements.
  • Define Future Product Lines:
Help develop Voyager’s roadmap for “Infrastructure as a Service” (IaaS) in space. Investigate new service layers (e.g., distributed mission control, on‑orbit cloud services) and define technical requirements to make them a reality.
  • Cloud & Hyperscaler Integration:
Analyze the role of terrestrial hyperscalers and how their technologies can be adapted for space. Work on bridging the gap between terrestrial cloud tools and orbital hardware.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Modern Software & Containerization:
    Deep experience with containerization…
