Job SummaryWe are hiring a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer for our Information Systems team. This role focuses on "automation‑first" operations and infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) to enhance reliability across private and public clouds.
Responsibilities- Apply IaC experience to develop and improve automation practices within IS.
- Automate software operations for re‑usability and consistency across distributed systems.
- Develop new features and improve resilience and scalability of Canonical’s cloud and container portfolio.
- Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Use observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch to monitor and alert on system health.
- Collaborate with development teams on service architecture, documentation, playbooks, and operational procedures.
- Provide assistance and support to globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers.
- Receive uninterrupted development time for large projects and automation initiatives.
- Share best practices in design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work.
- Own final responsibility for time‑critical escalations.
- Deep experience defining operations in code with version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
- Strong modern engineering background (peer‑review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile).
- Python software development experience in large projects.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Affinity with Linux storage technologies, from Ceph to databases.
- Hands‑on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree or greater in computer science or related field.
- Strong English communication skills across email, chat, video, and in‑person.
- Motivated to troubleshoot from kernel to web and willing to collaborate when needed.
- Flexible learner, open to rapid change.
- Passionate about open‑source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
Remote (any timezone). Full‑time. Salary: $175,000–$250,000.
