Network Technical Project Manager (Network Technical PM)
Role: Network Technical Project Manager (Network Technical PM)
Location: Southern California (Remote)
Duration: 4 to 6+ Months
Overview: The organization is undertaking a major initiative to consolidate dozens of fragmented campus networks into a unified, modern network architecture. The current environment includes independently managed networks, aging equipment approaching end-of-life, inconsistent security controls, limited wireless coverage, and minimal visibility across environments. This transformation aims to standardize operations, enhance reliability, strengthen security posture, reduce duplicative costs, and support modern academic, research, and administrative needs.
The future-state network architecture includes:
- Campus and Data Center leaf-spine fabrics
- VXLAN EVPN overlays
- Enhanced perimeter security with next-generation firewalls
- Unified wireless services using an enterprise-grade Wi‑Fi platform
- Zero Trust security integrated across the network
- Network automation via industry-leading SD‑WAN, monitoring, and configuration management tools
The program has completed Discovery and High‑Level Design
, and is now entering detailed planning, infrastructure build‑out, pilot deployment, and large‑scale migration phases.
Summary: The Network Technical Project Manager will lead planning, coordination, and execution for major technical work streams across Wired, Wireless, and Network Access Control (NAC). This PM will translate engineering requirements into actionable plans, manage dependencies, escalade issues promptly, and ensure technical progress aligns with the broader program roadmap.
This role requires a PM with advanced project management capabilities who can:
- Manage complex risks and dependencies
- Escalate issues effectively (internally vs. externally)
- Translate technical language into business terms
- Facilitate decision‑making with options, impacts, and trade‑offs
- Coordinate multiple engineering teams with minimal oversight
- Lead planning, tracking, and execution for assigned technical work streams across Wired, Wireless, and NAC.
- Convert integrated project timelines into detailed engineering task plans.
- Assign, sequence, and monitor daily progress of technical tasks.
- Maintain detailed RAID logs for Low‑Level Designs, configurations, infrastructure build, and remediation activities.
- Act as the first point of escalation for technical delays or blockers.
- Determine when to escalation internally versus externally.
- Communicate risks clearly with timelines, scope, and impact analysis.
- Work closely with Network Engineers, Network Architects, Business PM, OCM, Procurement, and Deployment leads.
- Coordinate design, build, testing, pilot execution, and migration waves.
- Support the coordination of requirements related to the internal Device Registration Portal being developed by the organization.
- Understand high‑level network engineering concepts or quickly learn them as needed.
- Translate technical risks and decisions into business‑friendly communication for leadership.
- Present clear decision frameworks, including options, pros/cons, and implications.
