The role of Regional Safety Manager for Cadogan Tate is multifaceted and vital to the success of our safe operations. A Regional Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that warehouse, drivers, field personnel, and office staff are well trained, well informed, and in compliance with relevant regulatory agency requirements. They ensure all equipment is compliant and all operations comply with all local and federal regulations.
By understanding the various aspects of OSHA, CAL OSHA and FMCSA regulations and safety, and utilizing the right tools and resources, the Regional Safety Manager can ensure a safe environment for everyone, protecting Cadogan Tates' employees at all levels of the organization, our sites, our assets, and our place in the market.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce and manage policies in place
- Assisting in policy development and education
- Conduct regular periodic Safety inspections at assigned site locations
- Oversee all accidents and incidents, from initial reporting to closure
- Obtain accident police reports and other documentation as required by FMCSA and insurance carrier requirements
- Analyze accident data, initiate and complete root cause analysis working with site management
- Coordinate post-accident inspections, investigations, and follow up training
- Coordinate post-accident drug and alcohol screening as required
- Document and preserve records pertaining to potential litigation
- Injury response, reporting and investigation
- Regulatory compliance (FMCSA, OSHA, EPA)
- Safety Training through Monthly and Quarterly meetings
- Monitoring Safety performance utilizing telematics and CSA BASIC scores
- Periodic vehicle and equipment inspections and coaching of employees in same
- Analyze and identify areas of improvement in accidents, inspections and report data to operations and the Group Director of EHS
- Risk Assessment - communicate identified challenges and trends to operations
- Educate Operations of any new compliance and DOT or OSHA regulation changes
- Review Safety Analytics for cloud-based site inspections
- Track assigned safety training for all employees in the assigned region, ensuring timely completion and records of completion
- Support Smith System training as a certified Smith System Train the Trainer
- Maintain/obtain OSHA 30 certification
- Quarterly Claims Review with insurance company for aging files and subrogation
- DOT Roadside Inspections - working with Fleet Safety in coaching and development for drivers and managers
- PPE audits for all impacted personnel
- Manage technology proficiency regarding Samsara and My Momentum software
- Participate in weekly new hire orientation
- Pilot programs and various technologies as they become incorporated
- Support other regions as well as the safety department staff when vacations
- Excellent knowledge regarding Title 49 regulations
- 5 years' experience in the warehouse and transportation industries in a safety role
- Knowledge of all applicable safety rules and regulations (OSHA, FMCSA)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively
- Excellent computer proficiency
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Special Projects: perform projects or other duties as needed or assigned
- Frequent travel is required to locations in the region on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. Occasional travel to other regions is needed
- Training - help facilitate/evaluate training of new drivers, office personnel, and operational managers as needed
- Coaching/Corrective Actions, working with General Managers, Site managers, HR, and dispatchers regarding any coaching or corrective actions that are needed
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and /or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles when in the field or locations.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions. The employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required
to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee may occasionally lift
and/or move up to 20 to 30 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to
adjust focus.
