Job Summary
The Print Production Specialist is responsible for producing high-volume, accurate, and compliant cannabis product labels used across manufacturing, packaging, and distribution. This role ensures all printed materials meet California cannabis regulations, brand standards, and production timelines. The ideal candidate has strong technical printing experience, graphic design capability, and exceptional attention to detail when working with compliance-driven data and labeling requirements.
Responsibilities Label Printing Operations- Set up, operate, and monitor label printers (e.g., Zebra, TSC, Dymo, GoDex, Primera, Quick Label, or similar).
- Produce high volumes of product, batch, and compliance labels according to daily production schedules.
- Load label materials, ribbons, and inks; perform minor adjustments and calibrations as needed.
- Verify label content accuracy, including product names, batch numbers, barcodes, UID tags, cannabinoid content, and required warnings.
- Organize, cut, roll, and prepare labels for packaging and production teams.
- Inspect labels for print quality, clarity, alignment, layout consistency, and color uniformity.
- Conduct random quality audits to ensure printed labels match approved templates and regulatory requirements.
- Reject and reprint any labels that fail quality or compliance standards.
- Pull product data from inventory, seed-to-sale, or compliance tracking systems (e.g., Metrc).
- Ensure all printed materials meet state and local cannabis labeling regulations, including Prop 65, universal symbols, and cannabinoid labeling rules.
- Maintain accurate logs, batch records, and documentation for internal audits and regulatory inspections.
- Identify discrepancies and elevate issues to the Compliance and Production team leaders.
- Use label design software such as Bar Tender, Nice Label, Zebra Designer, or Label Matrix to update and maintain label templates.
- Utilize Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark
XPress, or similar design tools for formatting or adjusting label artwork. - Collaborate with Compliance and Marketing teams to ensure label designs are current, approved, and brand-aligned.
- Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on printers and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve printer errors, software issues, and workflow interruptions.
- Coordinate outside repairs or technical support with vendors when necessary.
- Maintain organized inventory of label stock, print supplies, and consumables.
- Work closely with Compliance, Production, Packaging, Inventory, and Operations teams on print requests, batch updates, and production planning.
- Support new product launches by preparing label files, prototypes, and test prints.
- Assist with continuous improvement of workflow, accuracy, and labeling efficiency.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- An associate's degree or design/technical training is a plus.
- 2–4 years of experience in label printing, packaging, or production in a regulated industry (cannabis, food, pharmaceutical, or cosmetics preferred).
- Minimum 2 years of graphic design experience required.
- Hands-on experience with Zebra, TSC, Dymo, GoDex, Primera, or Quick Label printers required.
- Working knowledge of Bar Tender, Nice Label, Zebra Designer, Label Matrix, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar programs.
- Strong computer proficiency; ability to work with physical and logical port-to-port communication.
- Working knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS; basic familiarity with PHP is a plus.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of label materials, adhesives, print resolution, and layout structure.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
- Highly reliable, punctual, and deadline-driven.
- Team-oriented with strong time-management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Manual dexterity for operating printers, applicators, cutters, and related tools.
- On-site manufacturing and production environment.
- Exposure to noise, moving equipment, packaging machinery, and label printers.
- Fast-paced, accuracy-focused, compliance-driven setting.
