Ultramet is looking for a hands-on Machinist I to join our Machine Shop team This is a great opportunity for someone who is mechanically inclined, enjoys working with their hands, pays attention to detail, and is interested in learning and developing machining skills.

Position Summary Set up and operate conventional machine shop equipment with instruction and guidance from a lead or supervisor.
Work with lathes, mills, surface grinders, OD grinders, lappers, cut-off lathes, and band saws.
Fabricate parts of basic complexity using machine shop and bench-top techniques.
Review written instructions, drawings, and sketches with a lead or supervisor to understand the work to be performed.
Follow the appropriate sequence of steps to fabricate parts.
Perform in-process inspections using basic measuring devices.
Complete required paperwork and follow established shop and safety procedures.
Learn from experienced team members and continue developing machining and mechanical skills.
Candidate Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in hands-on work.
• Comfortable working with tools and learning how machines and equipment operate.
• Basic shop math and measurement skills.
• Good attention to detail and manual dexterity.
• Ability to follow written instructions, drawings, and sketches.
• Ability to use or learn to use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measuring devices.
• Dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable asking questions when guidance is needed.
• High school diploma, GED, or trade school preferred.
• Machining, mechanical, automotive, fabrication, maintenance, trade school, or other related hands-on experience is a plus.
• Ability to read and write English and follow instructions.
• Comfortable using basic hand tools and measuring tools.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Willingness to learn and follow safety procedures.

Previous machining experience is helpful, but we are also interested in candidates who demonstrate strong mechanical ability and a willingness to learn.
