About the Job

Citizen Relations seeks a Director of Corporate Communications to join our Reputation+ practice in either the NY or LA office. This role will lead key client relationships at the intersection of corporate and consumer communications—where brand reputation and cultural relevance meet. The Director will oversee a portfolio of corporate communications clients, managing high‑impact work across crisis and issues management, internal communications, executive visibility, and thought leadership.

The Director will also handle account finances, ensure profitability, and contribute to new‑business efforts including RFP development and pitch participation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead strategy and plan development alongside the account lead, offering strategic input and actionable feedback
  • Oversee and manage day‑to‑day account work; act as the core client contact and trusted advisor
  • Develop and guide corporate communications programs, including crisis and issues management, internal communications, executive visibility, and thought leadership
  • Provide senior counsel during crisis situations, supporting message development, stakeholder response, and reputation protection
  • Partner with clients on executive visibility, including thought leadership strategy, Linked In content, media positioning, and speech or content development
  • Support internal communications initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and alignment with corporate priorities
  • Champion innovative, insight‑driven work that drives measurable impact
  • Coach team members on client management, strategic thinking, and effective communication
  • Manage client satisfaction and loyalty through proactive communication and strong delivery
  • Assume accountability for execution within agency and client standards
  • Identify and resolve issues quickly, maintaining smooth client relationships and internal collaboration
  • Manage client expectations and consistently deliver high‑quality work under tight timelines
  • Oversee multiple teams, budgets, and billing simultaneously, ensuring efficiency and profitability
  • Participate in new business development by growing existing accounts, networking, identifying new prospects, and contributing to RFPs and pitches
  • Mentor junior team members and help prepare them for client and new‑business presentations
  • Contribute to creative brainstorming and campaign execution across corporate and consumer communications
  • Build strong relationships with senior clients, earning trust through strategic insight and reliable partnership
  • Serve as final quality control to ensure only the highest‑caliber work reaches clients
  • Take responsibility for account budgets and proactively manage profitability
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in corporate communications and/or related fields, including agency or in‑house roles
  • Proven experience with integrated corporate communication programs including brand building, media relations, issues and crisis management, executive visibility, thought leadership, digital and social, and stakeholder management
  • Experience in consumer PR, B2C and B2B a plus
  • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication, presentation, and client engagement skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Interest and passion for training others and building knowledge across the organization
  • Well organized, disciplined, and detail oriented
Compensation

Transparency matters to us. For this role, you can expect a salary between $115,000–$135,000 annually, depending on experience.
