INFORMATION ABOUT THE CAREER LADDERCARE is an LAUSD career ladder that provides individualized support, mentoring, and financial assistance to classified employees seeking a career in school nursing. CARE is a program of support, not a nursing education program.

- Hiring assistance to become a full-time credentialed school nurse
- Maintain employment with LAUSD in a classified or Teacher Assistant position
- Make steady progress towards earning a bachelor’s degree and/ or an RN License
- Meet with a Career Ladder Specialist once yearly to review progress and goals
- Maintain regular attendance by meeting the District’s attendance goals
- Commit to work as a school nurse for two years in LAUSD after earning a clear school nurse credential
- Current employment in LAUSD in a classified or Teacher Assistant position
- Recommendation from your current principal or Nursing Administrator
- Meet District or job class attendance requirements
- Willingness to undertake a rigorous course of study to obtain an RN License and a bachelor’s degree, which are requirements for a school nurse position
- Complete an application
- Provide most recent transcripts (unofficial accepted)
- Prepare contact information for a principal or Nurse Administrator reference
- Selected applicants will be interviewed for the final selection
