This role is part of the Prepared Foods team, supporting preparation, counter service, sanitation, and stocking of products. Team members serve customers with courtesy, friendliness, and efficiency and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, health and safety regulations, and Whole Foods Market core values.

Base pay range

$18.00/hr - $25.40/hr

Responsibilities
  • Cuts, prepares, and serves a variety of hot and cold foods (meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salad, pizza).
  • Samples products to customers.
  • Stocks hot and cold cases and displays with prepared foods from kitchen, walk‑in preparation, and refrigerators.
  • Checks in‑stock product dates for freshness and rotates when necessary.
  • Sorts and consolidates recyclables.
  • Assists Team Leader in organizing and displaying volume and seasonal items.
  • Completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required.
  • Assists with periodic inventory checks.
  • Arrives to work station on time, groomed, and ready; works all scheduled shifts and attends required trainings and meetings.
  • Provides excellent customer service, addresses needs promptly, and models suggestive selling techniques; answers phones and pages courteously.
  • Maximizes sales potential through effective preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and merchandising.
  • Follows procedures including Weights & Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary environment; maintains equipment per WFM cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Performs opening, mid‑shift, and closing duties; ensures accuracy of signs and pricing.
  • Immediately reports safety hazards and violations.

  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products in the department.

  • Ability to deliver information clearly to Team Members, customers, and vendors.

Desired Work Experience
  • No prior retail experience required.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Stand/walk 6‑8 hours in an 8‑hour shift.
  • Uses hands for single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA‑approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90°F.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Use of tools and equipment (knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, etc.).
  • Might require use of ladders.
