Position Overview
Title: Project Scientist
Department: Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of California, Los Angeles
Salary Range: Positions may be full or part‑time and may be with or without salary.
Rank: Assistant Project Scientist or higher depending on qualifications.

We anticipate openings for ambitious independent Ph.D. researchers in the following divisions:
Foot and Ankle Surgery, General Orthopaedics, Hand Surgery, Joint Replacement, Musculoskeletal Oncology, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Spine Surgery, Sports Medicine, and Trauma Surgery.
Duties:
- Conduct independent research under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
- Assist in supervising graduate and undergraduate student researchers.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
- Assist with the preparation of grant proposals.
- Work on multiple projects efficiently and independently.
- Communicate effectively with scientists worldwide.
- Help train personnel in data analysis and contribute to the design and execution of laboratory experiments.
- Maintain equipment as needed.
Additional Duties:
- Experience in small animal surgical procedures, if required.
- Experience with specific laboratory procedures and data processing as requested.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated years of research experience in an academic setting or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently and to collaborate across disciplines.
Initial appointments are one year and renewable based on funding and availability. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
