HD Mechanic C

SA Recycling is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain large vehicles and equipment. The role involves troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems using hand tools and specialized diagnostic equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

• Consult the end user/driver and read work orders to evaluate required tasks.
• Prepare work plans after fully scoping out issues.
• Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to recommend solutions.
• Inspect vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering, and exhausts.
• Repair or replace vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated parts.
• Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge performance.
• Complete oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks.
• Maintain records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles.

• Two years of experience on all types of construction equipment if progressing from the Bargaining Unit.
• Three years of experience if hired into this labor grade from outside the unit.
• Good general working knowledge of diesel engines, automotive electrical systems, transmissions, hydraulics, and power trains (see sublist).
• Must be able to learn and utilize service and technical manuals.
• Standard tool set required; specialized tools will be provided by the Company.
• Will need assistance and supervision for disassembling, inspecting, and identifying worn or failed components.
• Continued education and participation in refresher training courses offered by manufacturing dealerships will be required; the Company will cover related expenses for bargaining unit employees.
