Staff Software Engineer, Platform Engineering

Snap Inc is a technology company dedicated to improving how people live and communicate through products such as Snapchat, Lens Studio, and Spectacles.

The Platform Engineering organization owns core infrastructure services that power Snap’s backend systems, including API Gateway, Service Mesh, Managed Kubernetes, Capacity Management, and Workload Scheduling. These services support high‑volume products such as Messaging, Story Posting, Media Delivery, and Ads at internet scale.

• Design and develop systems across compute, networking, and metrics infrastructure.
• Set strategic direction, build roadmaps, define measurable goals, and lead the team to deliver.
• Collaborate with product, operations, data science, engineering teams, and executive stakeholders.
• Evaluate technical trade‑offs on major decisions and mentor teammates on complex challenges.
• Hire, grow, and retain high‑performing team members.

• Experience building high‑availability, mission‑critical systems.
• Track record of leading an engineering team.
• Ability to execute large, complex technical initiatives.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years of post‑bachelor software development experience, or a master’s degree with 7+ years, or a Ph.D. with 3+ years.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure technologies.

• Familiarity with large‑scale initiatives from ideation to completion.
• Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Experience with multi‑cloud backend services and networking solutions.
• Experience with microservices architecture and Kubernetes containerization.
• Experience with Graphite or Prometheus monitoring.

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for this position. The starting pay will be based on job‑related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The pay zone ranges are:

• Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $229,000 – $343,000 annually
• Zone B: $218,000 – $326,000 annually
• Zone C: $195,000 – $292,000 annually

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
