Software Engineer, Customer Experience

Whatnot is the largest live‑shopping platform in North America and Europe, blending community, shopping, and entertainment into a single experience. We’re looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to join the Customer Experience Platform team and help us build a world‑class Customer Support platform. The role requires solving complex support needs for buyers and sellers, scaling high‑volume infrastructure, and designing AI‑powered automations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build user‑facing experiences that enable customers to resolve support issues quickly.
  • Scale and maintain internal infrastructure to handle high‑volume, low‑latency workloads.
  • Design intelligent AI‑powered automations to reduce manual support effort.
  • Lead solutions from end to end, translating ambiguous business problems into clear technical solutions.
  • Drive delivery, experimentation, and continuous improvement while balancing speed, product impact, and technical excellence.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of full‑time software engineering experience in high‑growth startups.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Backend expertise with a proven track record of building end‑to‑end product experiences and scaling high‑scale backend systems; experience with Python, Elixir, and/or Postgre

    SQL is a plus.
  • Ownership mindset: able to own projects from inception to production and beyond.
  • Product instinct: excel at translating user needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Problem solving: thrive in ambiguity and tackle challenging problems with creativity and autonomy.
  • Team leadership: proactively improve the team environment and foster an inclusive, supportive culture.
