Embedded Software Engineer, Project Kuiper Optical Inter-Satellite Link ject Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

• Develop highly reliable flight software, ranging from low level control to autonomous system behaviors for RTOS and/or bare-metal environments
• Develop supporting test, validation, and simulation software infrastructure
• Participate in the full life-cycle of software development, from requirements definition and design to deployment and maintenance in orbit
• Work closely with software, hardware and systems engineers to support design, build, integration, test, and deployment of high speed optical communication systems

As a Software Engineer, you will be a member of the Optical Inter-Satellite Link team, focusing on the design, implementation, and verification of software systems to control and monitor high-speed optical communications. You will identify top-level requirements and pursue high quality, innovative designs while supporting colleagues with improving embedded system designs.

We are looking for a software engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to execute quickly and effectively. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and collaborate closely with optical, electrical, firmware, and opto-mechanical development teams. Be comfortable with ambiguity and solving problems ’ll learn, have fun, and make a positive impact on hundreds of millions of people.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
• Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Experience building complex software systems delivered to customers
• Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems
• Experience in embedded development in C/C++/Rust/assembly and scripting development in Python
