Job Description
The Corporate Regulatory Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Regulatory Compliance team, ensuring consistent adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role supports company-wide compliance objectives and serves as a key liaison with internal departments and external regulatory bodies.
Essential Functions- Lead and manage the daily operations of the Corporate Regulatory Compliance team, including managing direct reports, conducting employee reviews, processing PTO, and developing team members for the future.
- Ensure team members have the necessary tools, training, and guidance to meet performance expectations and deadlines.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory requirements at the federal, state, local, and international levels, ensuring the company remains fully compliant.
- Develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and best practices in accordance with company standards and legal requirements.
- Translate and interpret proposed regulatory changes and their impact on the company; proactively engage partners and support mitigation activities.
- Understand the regulatory risks related to anticipatory issues and enterprise risk management processes.
- Work with key departments in commercialization on regulatory expectations, product specifications, and product improvements.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s regulatory and compliance policies and applicable government regulations.
- Deliver accurate and timely regulatory support to all internal and external customer requests and inquiries.
- Manage the development of nutritional panels and ingredient statements for all new products; review and verify nutritional and ingredient/packaging information for existing products to ensure data is current and accurate.
- Ensure data for individual product specification sheets and raw material specifications.
- Review product claims (ingredient, nutrient, etc.) for use and approval in intended market; ensure regulatory compliance based on product status and intended market for distribution.
- Manage the maintenance of electronic files for labeling software including NLEA, allergen, and ingredient statements.
- Evaluate package graphic proofs for all requisite information (ingredient statements, net weights, font size, placement, etc.); provide audit support for existing labels.
- Interpret, apply, and communicate FDA regulatory guidelines and regulations, including Identity Preservation and health claims such as Organic, Kosher, Halal, Vegetarian, Natural, GMO status, etc.
- Manage halal certification to meet market acceptance and demands.
- Assist in the development of new regulatory policies, processes, and SOPs.
- Provide training and guidance to the regulatory compliance team.
- Oversee the preparation, collection, and coordination of regulatory documentation for submission to regulatory agencies or commercial partners as needed.
- Support internal teams with regulatory-related aspects of the business, ensuring both US and international regulatory requirements are followed.
- Respond to routine customer inquiries and investigate and respond to customer complaints from a regulatory perspective.
- Keep abreast of new or revised regulations, guidelines, points to consider, compliance guidelines, inspection reports, journals, etc.
- Foster a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across the organization.
- Support the review, understanding, and compliance of all programs, policies, and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the VP of FSQR and CIPO.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, or a related scientific or technical field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of regulatory compliance experience, preferably in a corporate or global setting.
- 5 years of experience within an ingredient or food manufacturing company, or within a technical/regulatory organization, with specific experience in food safety, technical services, regulatory strategy, or supply chain risk management.
