Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, Valencia Campus is accepting applications for Lecturer II or III in Criminal Justice
, a full‑time, 9‑month, non‑tenure track position. The position begins August 10, 2026. For best consideration, all application documents must be received by February 16, 2026, however, the positions will remain open until filled.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico–Valencia Campus is a two‑year branch campus of the University of New Mexico. It offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,500 each semester.

Base salary for the position is $51,000. Summer teaching is available, but not required, and is not to exceed 3/9ths of base salary.

Provide 27 credit hours of classroom instruction across the academic year (fall and spring semesters) in Criminal Justice or related subjects based on the applicant’s qualifications and education. Responsibilities include maintaining attendance and student records, posting and maintaining office hours as per UNM Valencia Campus policy, and participating in the lecturer promotion committee as well as other college committees, curriculum development initiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (directly related to teaching field), classroom technology training, departmental projects, and other areas of service and scholarship as appropriate.

This position will also liaise with the community on matters related to the Criminal Justice program and work to promote and grow the program.

If selected for an interview, the applicant should be prepared to present a teaching demonstration (subject matter to be announced and based on the candidate’s area of expertise).

• Master’s degree in Criminal Justice.
• At least one year of teaching experience at the post‑secondary level.

• At least one year of experience teaching criminal justice at a two‑year or community college.
• Experience working with educational and community partners, such as local law enforcement agencies.
• Experience building and growing new programs.
• A demonstrated commitment to cultivating an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
