Assistant Professor of Chemistry – Valencia Campus
The University of New Mexico (UNM) is hiring an Assistant Professor of Chemistry for a full‑time, 9‑month, tenure‑track position at the Valencia Campus. The position begins August 17, 2026.
Position SummaryThe role involves teaching, service, and scholarship at a two‑year branch community college associated with UNM. The faculty and staff serve approximately 2,300 students each semester.
Salary:
Base salary for a nine‑month faculty position is $57,000, with optional additional compensation for summer teaching. An excellent benefits package is provided.
- Provide 12 credit hours of classroom instruction each fall and spring semester.
- Maintain attendance, scholastic, and student records; post and maintain office hours as per UNM Valencia Campus policy.
- Participate in college committees, curriculum development initiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development, classroom technology training, departmental projects, and other areas of service and scholarship as appropriate.
- Participate in undergraduate research initiatives related to current grant awards (as applicable).

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field.
- At least two years of experience teaching at a post‑secondary institution.
- Ph.D. or ABD in Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Evidence of commitment to and potential for service and professional development.
- More than one year of experience teaching at a 2‑year community college.
- Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended courses.
- Experience teaching in a second STEM field such as physics, geology, or biology.
- Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of current teaching methodologies in active learning and course‑based undergraduate research experiences.
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivating an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
