Summary

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced MEP Project Engineer II who can interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever‑changing environment. The role requires flexibility, resourcefulness, proactive communication, efficiency, and a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Project Engineer will review, analyze, manage, and resolve field coordination issues with project team members and participants.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons
  • Implement the pre‑construction quality plan
  • Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring permit expenses
  • Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Non‑Conformance Report
  • Develop equipment coordination, furnishings, fixtures matrices, and a coordination matrix for source sizing, compatibility, and control
  • Manage, create, and distribute contract documents
  • Lead and direct the 3‑D coordination process to resolve conflicts before installation
  • Establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence)
  • Incorporate processes and procedures for the project closeout phase
  • Manage all aspects of testing and inspection processes for construction quality management
  • Implement a three‑phase inspection system
  • Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and off‑site testing procedures
  • Notify Project Manager and Superintendent of non‑conforming test results or inspection items
  • Assist in the commissioning process, including startup plan, COT, commissioning schedule, and functional testing
  • Manage submittals: set up register, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing
  • Expedite submittals to align with the project schedule
  • Communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers
  • Issue submittal requirement letters
  • Provide periodic updates of the submittal register to customer or architect
  • Coordinate subcontractor details: verify insurance, prepare paperwork, request final payment
  • Lead project closeout activities: operations and maintenance manuals, model turnover, training
  • Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders
  • Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as‑built construction documents
  • Incorporate subcontractor as‑built documentation into contract document updates
  • Determine alternative work methods as needed
  • Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members
  • Maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills
  • Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Minimum three years construction experience, preferably with a Mechanical or Electrical Contractor
  • Current driver’s license

Base Pay Range

The base pay range for this role is $91,100 MIN – $123,000 MAX. Actual range is higher for the following office locations:
Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%.
