POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Graduate Engineer III at LJA Transportation, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of engineering projects under the responsible charge of a licensed Professional Engineer. This position is intended for an Engineer‑in‑Training who has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and has 2–4 years of progressive engineering experience. The role offers increasing technical responsibility, exposure to project delivery, and a defined pathway toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and design tasks under PE supervision
  • Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, and technical memoranda
  • Assist with data collection, field observations, and site investigations
  • Support preparation of permit applications and regulatory documentation
  • Coordinate with project managers, senior engineers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Review drawings and technical documents for accuracy and compliance
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance processes
  • Assist with project scheduling, cost tracking, and client deliverables

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Maintain Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) status in good standing
  • Actively pursue experience and education required for PE licensure

    Participate in training, mentoring, and continuing education opportunities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and holds EIT status
  • 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer
  • Proficiency with standard engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, GIS, or equivalent)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience with public infrastructure projects (transportation, aviation, water resources, site development, or utilities)
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience supporting permitting, technical reports, and agency coordination
  • Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
