Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Building Inspector role covering Nottingham /Derby areas. The Building Inspector will carry out site and building inspections at various stages of construction to assess compliance with Building Regulations and relevant technical standards. Responsibilities include reviewing plans and specifications, checking structural, fire safety, accessibility, energy efficiency, and public health requirements, and documenting findings in clear, accurate reports.
The role involves advising clients, designers, and contractors on compliance issues, identifying any non-conformances, and agreeing appropriate remedial actions. The Building Inspector will also support project coordination with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and best practices, and contribute to a professional, customer-focused service.
- Strong Building Inspections and Inspection experience, with the ability to assess works at different construction stages for regulatory compliance.
- Practical Site Inspections experience, including working safely on active construction sites and liaising with site teams.
- Knowledge of Code Enforcement and Building Regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant standards and guidance.
- Understanding of Plumbing and associated building services to verify compliance with applicable technical requirements.
- Relevant professional qualification in Building Control, Construction, Surveying, or a related field (e.g., degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience).
- Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CABE, RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear report writing and the ability to explain technical issues to non-specialists.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficiency with standard office and inspection-related software, and willingness to use digital tools for recording and reporting.
- Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to sites across the region as required.
