Control Operator – Lifeline Office
We are seeking a Control Operator to work in our busy Lifeline office. Lifeline is a support service for the elderly and vulnerable tenants and residents of Charnwood Borough Council. Controllers are alerted to customers’ needs by the activation of a pendant or pullcord which sends an alert to the Lifeline monitoring centre. The controller is required to ask questions to assess the nature of the emergency and decide on the action to be taken.
Action could involve calling the appropriate emergency services, talking to the appropriate medical professionals, or contacting family or carers. Full training will be provided for the successful candidate. This service is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Responsibilities- Work an average of 24 hours per week, covering shift work that includes a night, an evening, an afternoon and a morning shift, including weekends and bank holidays as per the rota.
- Respond to calls after hours for emergency repair requests from tenants living in the borough.
- Occasionally cover for colleagues’ sickness and holidays, for which overtime pay will be provided.
- Handle lone‑working situations when required.
- Ability to deal calmly and confidently with a variety of situations, remaining polite and courteous at all times.
- Strong initiative and confidence in working independently.
- Clear communication skills, able to respond in a manner that ensures trust in the service we are providing.
- Knowledge and understanding of handling sensitive personal information in line with Data Protection (GDPR).
