Modality's Probe Repair Lab is the first and largest of its kind in the UK and serves a growing global client base. We provide specialist ultrasound probe repair services in accordance with approved Repair Schemes and associated processes developed by Modality's clinical scientists and clinical physicists.

Our work is built on service, innovation and quality. Repairs are carried out with precision and care, and repair effectiveness is confirmed through a strict testing regime based on acceptance standards developed by our clinical scientific and clinical physics teams.

The lab is now entering an important new phase of growth and development. We are expanding to meet increased customer demand, broaden the scope of our authorised repair schemes and modernise the way we approach repair development, testing and production.

To support this, we are looking for a practical and improvement-focused engineer to bring fresh energy, curiosity and technical development capability into the lab.

This role is suited to someone with an HNC, HND or BSc-level qualification in a relevant engineering or applied science discipline, particularly where there is a strong practical engineering component.

What matters most is practical engineering ability, curiosity, integrity, attention to detail and the desire to help improve how things are done.

The successful candidate will be trained in Modality's probe repair methods and will initially contribute directly to repair activity, testing, documentation and controlled lab processes. However, this is not intended to remain a narrow repair-only role. After appropriate training and authorisation, the post holder will be expected to become fully involved in developing, trialling, evaluating and documenting new repair techniques and process improvements.

This is a practical, hands‑on role, but it also offers genuine scope to grow with the company as the lab expands its capability, repair schemes and technical ambition.

• Carry out ultrasound probe repair activities after appropriate training and authorisation.
• Work in accordance with approved Repair Schemes, standard operating procedures and quality-controlled processes.
• Perform repair-related testing and checks using defined acceptance criteria.
• Maintain accurate repair records, test records and supporting documentation.
• Support the development of new repair techniques, methods and production processes.
• Participate in practical trials, method development, evaluation work and controlled experimentation.
• Help convert ideas and technical observations into properly documented, testable repair processes.
• Contribute to the evaluation and documentation of new or amended Repair Schemes.
• Investigate repair failures, material behaviour, process variation and opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with validation and verification activity required to support new or improved repair methods.
• Help modernise production approaches within the lab, including the appropriate use of advanced 3D printing, CAD, prototyping and related manufacturing methods where relevant.
• Work collaboratively with experienced probe repair technicians, clinical scientists, clinical physicists and quality colleagues.
• Bring constructive curiosity and practical problem-solving into day‑to‑day lab activity.
• Support a culture of quality, traceability, learning, innovation and continuous improvement.

• HNC or HND in an engineering, manufacturing, materials, electronics, mechanical, biomedical, medical technology or applied science discipline.
• BSc in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, materials science, medical technology, physics, chemistry, product design engineering or a related subject, provided the course included a substantial practical engineering component.
• A recognised technical or engineering qualification supported by strong practical experience in repair, testing, manufacturing, maintenance, prototyping, technical development or process improvement.
