The Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW) is part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients. Support and supervision is provided by a Registered Healthcare Professional (RHP). The SHCSW carries out a range of patient care tasks and duties to enable the team to provide an effective and efficient service.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates care and compassion to patients, carers and relatives to help ensure high quality person‑centred patient care is delivered at all times.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including feeding, bathing and repositioning, under the supervision of an RHP.
- Provides support to the RHP and, where appropriate, other members of the Clinical Team.
- Co‑operates with and maintains good relationships with team colleagues and staff in other disciplines to maximise patient care.
- Supports new starters within the clinical environment.
- Maintains good relationships and an empathic approach to the patient’s family, relatives and carers, referring them to an RHP for any questions about the patient’s condition or for suggestions/complaints.
- Undertakes care as delegated by the RHP, adhering to the Trust’s policies and procedures to promote the patient’s health, safety and wellbeing.
- Assists with the safe transfer of all patients between clinical areas.
- Communicates/liaises with members of the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and follows information governance policies and procedures.
- Participates in maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date records, e.g., food and fluid intake charts.
- Follows NUH policies and procedures to ensure safe working practices for patients and colleagues.
- Follows work‑area procedures for the use of supplies and equipment to promote the effective and efficient use of resources.
- Shares responsibility for key aspects of housekeeping and stock control, demonstrating a good awareness of cost efficiency and safety.
- Reports observed changes in the patient’s physical or psychological needs to the RHP.
- Performs a range of clinical duties and reports results to the RHP, e.g. urinalysis, blood pressure, pregnancy testing, patient observations and supervision of patients.
- Deals with questions and enquiries from patients, carers and relatives, referring them to an RHP where appropriate.
- Undertakes routine and regular checks on patient trolleys and bed spaces, ensuring all relevant equipment is clean, in good working order and intact, and reports faults to the Registered Nurse.

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro‑rata basis for part‑time workers.
