The authorized level of the position is Building Construction Inspector II. Applications are being accepted down to the Building Construction Inspector I in the event of recruiting difficulties.

Salary Range:

Building Construction Inspector I, SR-17: $4,240.00 per month

Building Construction Inspector II, SR-19: $4,766.00 per month

Examples of Duties

  • Inspects and measures construction materials used, and checks methods employed in the construction at hand;
  • Inspects the erection of false work and concrete forms used;
  • Accepts or rejects concrete forms, construction equipment and materials, based on specifications or modifications approved by a higher-level inspector;
  • Keeps detailed work-completed and materials-used records;
  • Prepares and submits routine inspection reports, as directed; and
  • Prepares monthly progress reports concerning the construction project.


Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement: Graduation from high school. One year of any work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for graduation from high school.

Experience Requirements: Except for the substitutions provided for below, applicants must have had progressively responsible experience in the quantities shown in the table below and of the types and quality described in the paragraphs below.

Experience:

Experience in the building construction trades which required the knowledge of building construction methods and materials, safety requirements and practices, inspection of the quality of the construction materials and workmanship, and the reading of plans and specifications.

Substitution of Training for General Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the two years of Specialized Experience required.

Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such type, quality, scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he is being considered.

License Requirement: Applicants must possess a current, valid driver's license.

Supplemental Information

Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.

Requirements: Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example:
Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example:
Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
