KCRG‑TV9 is the most‑watched and most‑trusted news outlet covering Eastern Iowa. Based in Cedar Rapids with a bureau in Dubuque, we produce more than 7 hours of news each day, support a robust social media and digital platform, and provide dozens of live sports and community events a year with our live production unit.

The Technical Media Producer directs live or pre‑recorded productions, monitors KCRG’s and KYOU’s on‑air signals and FCC logs, and ingests/prepares daily programming and commercials for air. Regular assignments involve directing specific newscasts and miscellaneous station productions.

• Direct live and pre‑recorded productions and monitor all on‑air streams for KCRG and KYOU.
• Operate Ross Overdrive automation, production video switcher, master control video switcher, automation, graphics, and all supporting equipment in Production/Master Control, including robotic camera, prompter, audio, program/commercial ingesting/segmenting, and satellite operation.
• Understand FCC logs and broadcast regulations.
• Work with ENPS, the newsroom computer system.
• Know all equipment in the studio and production areas.
• Adapt to a variable work schedule due to changing shifts, station projects, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Degree in Communications or a related field, or equivalent job experience.
• Excellent communication and people skills.
• Newscast directing, Master Control, or production assistant experience in a system similar to KCRG’s, with preferred automation and playout software knowledge.
• Operating knowledge of PCs and graphics computers.
• Understand FCC broadcast regulations.
• Required to sit and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to carry moderately heavy equipment up to approximately 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in potentially extreme weather conditions (heat or cold).
• Ability to work in an environment with fluctuating noise and light levels.
• Ability to climb a ladder.
