Position: Flash Animation Supervisor (Digital Puppet Pipeline)
Location: New Orleans

Swaybox Studios is rewriting the rulebook of visual storytelling. As we collaborate with DC Studios/ Warner Bros Pictures Animation and Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho on a revolutionary new project, you’ll help bring bold creative visions to life through hands‑on artistry and performance. This is your chance to be a part of a production that’s equal parts innovative and unforgettable.

Job Summary

Swaybox Studios is seeking a highly skilled and experienced 2D Digital Animation Supervisor to oversee the digital connection of layered, live‑action, puppet performances into a Flash‑like animation, with a heavy concentration on fluidity and motion. Utilizing our proprietary Digi‑Pup (Digital Puppetry) techniques, you will be responsible for tracking and blending multiple performances—across varying shooting styles and scales—into movements that align with the stylistic aesthetic of the project.

This role is critical in ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow that maintains the artistic vision of the film, as well as the high standards and quality of the puppetry performances. As a key part of the team, you will collaborate closely with the Director, Puppetry Supervisor, VFX Supervisor, and other department leads to develop tools and workflows that enhance the overall Digi‑Pup pipeline.

Your ability to be hands‑on in the development of the workflow, troubleshooting, and supporting artists, while maintaining positive team morale, will be essential for this role.

Work Location

This role will be a studio‑based position and is expected to work from our New Orleans, Louisiana studio.

Key Responsibilities
  • 2D Tracking (stabilizing and match moving) the live‑action puppet layers to retain puppeteer performances, as well as, enhancing additional motion to help the character to feel grounded and natural.
  • Work closely with artists to troubleshoot files, guide shot work, and address any challenges that arise during production.
  • Ensure the technical and artistic aspects of Digi‑Pup performances align with the project’s overall vision; maintaining consistency across the different shooting styles and scales of our puppets.
  • Supervise and maintain positive team morale within the department; providing mentorship and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Actively participate in recruitment efforts, helping to identify and onboard new talent for the Digi‑Pup animation team.
  • Assist in training new team members, providing guidance and support in developing their skills with the Digi‑Pup system.
  • Lead the development of tools and workflows that improve and optimize the Digi‑Pup pipeline, collaborating with Technical Directors and other departments to implement solutions.
  • Report progress and challenges to Director and Supervisors; providing clear updates on team performance, milestones, and any potential issues.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in 2D flash‑like animation, or a related field, with a deep understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, and form.
  • Previous experience working with hybrid digital/physical animation techniques.
  • Experience using compositing software (e.g., Nuke, After Effects, Fusion, etc.) to do basic compositing, warping, and tracking.
  • Strong understanding and implementation of animation principles.
  • A solid grasp on human anatomy and physical movement, as it applies to realistic puppet animation.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate the team in a fast‑paced production environment.
