The Inspector 3 is under the direction of the Chief Building Inspector. The Inspector 3 is responsible for the inspect all construction as necessary for compliance with the technical codes and Ordinances adopted by St. Tammany Parish on behalf of the Department of Inspections and Enforcement.

• Inspect all construction as necessary for compliance with the technical codes adopted by St. Tammany Parish: includes inspections in all trades such as electrical, mechanical, drainage, plumbing, gas, framing, foundation. Includes residential and commercial inspections
• Data entry into My Permit Now and completion of documentation
• Answer questions about issues or conflicts found in inspections
• Performs all other technical or administrative tasks as assigned
• Regular, consistent attendance is required
• Any other duties as assigned

Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer and software, MPN, and other specialty equipment needed for the position. Employee must have strong verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills. Must be able to communicate clearly with staff and general public and provide clear, concise, and accurate information and excellent organizational and time management skills.

The incumbent works in a typical office environment, but will also work in outside field areas of land which may include swampy and wet conditions and uneven surfaces. The incumbent may be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment.

Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties.

Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.

A high school diploma or equivalent GED. Must have Certifications in residential and commercial or Combination Inspector as per ICC. Must be able to become familiar with ordinances and code regulations to interpret and direct enforcement on behalf of St. Tammany Parish, and be able to become familiar with all paperwork requirements. Must possess a current valid driver’s license.
