Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: New Orleans

Tulane University School of Medicine's Department of Surgery is seeking candidates for a clinical faculty position in Acute Care/Critical Care Surgery at the assistant professor level.

This position is based primarily at East Jefferson General Hospital, Tulane's principal teaching affiliate in the metropolitan New Orleans area. The clinical practice will focus on emergency general surgery and surgical intensive care. The SICU includes a diverse and high-acuity case mix, including acute care surgery patients, post-operative abdominal transplant patients, and complex surgical patients from subspecialties including surgical oncology, ENT, and orthopedics.

Opportunities to develop an elective general surgery practice are available, including robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

This position offers a focused practice in emergency general surgery and surgical critical care without dedicated trauma call responsibilities. Candidates with interest in maintaining trauma exposure may explore opportunities aligned with their individual career goals.

Tulane offers a highly collaborative academic environment for surgeons interested in clinical investigation, education, and program development. The Division of Trauma and Critical Care maintains a robust research portfolio, including federally funded clinical trials, multicenter collaborations, and translational science initiatives. Faculty are supported in developing focused academic niches as surgeon-scientists, surgeon-educators, or clinical leaders.

Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in contributing to our academic mission through research, innovation, and trainee education. Responsibilities include participation in undergraduate and graduate medical education, with opportunities for mentorship, curriculum development, and leadership roles commensurate with experience.
