Program Manager – SOM Program Manager for Medical Student Career Advising
Summary: The SOM Program Manager for Medical Student Career Advising is responsible for collaborating with the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs, the Registrar, the Faculty Director for Career Advising, and the Staff Director of Career Advising to develop, implement, manage, and deliver a comprehensive career advising structure. This position integrates existing resources (such as Tulane Learning Communities, AAMCs Careers in Medicine, clerkship coordinators, and volunteer specialty faculty advisors) to develop and manage resources for a longitudinal advising system, with emphasis on residency advising and specialty choice.
The focus is on career advising for pre‑clinical medical students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with career advising programs, preferably in higher education with understanding of a complex degree curriculum.
- High discretion and confidentiality as required in a counseling environment.
- Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment; self‑starter able to work without significant staff support.
- Superior planning and organizational skills, attention to detail.
- Ability to work with and achieve buy‑in from constituents at various hierarchical levels.
- Ability to prioritize work tasks, meet deadlines, and adjust workload seasonally.
- Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Appreciation of diverse backgrounds and ability to communicate with varied constituencies.
- Proficiency with databases and reporting software.
- Facility with Microsoft Office products; willingness to learn additional software such as Docushare, eMedley, Banner, Canvas, etc.
Required
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of relevant experience (or equivalences).
- High School Diploma plus 6 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree (preferred).
- Experience in a medical school setting; knowledge of medical school curriculum, student profiles, and LCME accreditation expectations.
- Advanced skills with management and use of databases and reporting software.
- Experience in web and social media management.
