The ETS’s three main roles are the delivery of military education, the design of military training, and the development of the cultural and linguistic requirements of the Army. Officers teach Soldiers in the UK as well as educating troops from allied forces, ensuring their development throughout their career and maintaining the British Army’s reputation for world‑leading training.
Officers and Soldiers of the Adjutant General’s Corps provide support to the Army in many forms, from training and administration to personnel support and policing.
The ETS is a branch of the Adjutant General’s Corps, containing the SPS, RMP, MPS, ALS and MPGS. Each branch is supported by the others but maintains its own regimental role, traditions and ethos.

- 72 UCAS points from at least two A‑level, or Scottish Higher, passes.
- 35 ALIS points at GCSE (34 for SCEs) from seven GCSE/SCE subjects (including Grade C/4, Scottish National C, in English, Maths and a science or a foreign language).
- A Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in any subject.
You begin with Officer training by enrolling on the Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, which lasts 44 weeks. You learn what’s expected of a British Army Officer and how to lead Soldiers on and off the battlefield.
Step 2Upon completion of the Commissioning Course you will attend the ETS Branch Training course at Worthy Down near Winchester. During this course you begin the PGCE programme, the first step towards gaining an MSc. You will develop the skills required to deliver education and training to Soldiers, both at home and deployed, while continuing to develop leadership skills and fitness.
Post‑Training Qualifications- MSc in Education (Practice and Innovation)
- Certificate in English Language Teaching of Adults (CELTA)
- Defence qualifications in culture, language and media
Once your online application has been approved, you will have an interview with a recruiter, who will discuss the corps you would like to join. You will learn more about your chosen corps, though you won’t make your final decision until you begin training at Sandhurst.
