Education ​/ Teaching Instructor, Elementary School

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law-abiding citizens. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Instructor to provide academic instruction to youth in secure care facilities.

• Teach or instruct classes of secured care juveniles in the state mandated curriculum, behavioral principles and instructional practices, including classroom management based on positive reinforcement.
• Deliver instruction in core academic subjects (e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies) aligned with Louisiana Department of Education standards.
• Organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning; write lesson plans for individual and group instruction.
• Develop and implement individualized lesson plans based on student needs and learning levels.
• Maintain classroom discipline and promote a safe, respectful learning environment.
• Serve as an acceptable model for student in grooming, dress and conduct.
• Assess student progress and maintain accurate academic records.
• Collaborate with facility staff, counselors, and education coordinators to support student success.
• Integrate life skills, career readiness, and character education into daily instruction.
• Participate in professional development and training sessions.

• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or related field.
• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate with appropriate ELA content area certification (Grades 6-12).
• Passed Praxis II content exam for ELA.
• Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
• Ability to work effectively with at-risk youth in a secure care setting.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
