Location: New Orleans
Description
The Vietnamese or Mandarin Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a program that creates a classroom environment fostering the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Vietnamese or Mandarin.
Expectations and Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Vietnamese, Mandarin, education, or a related field
- Experience teaching Vietnamese or Mandarin in a middle or secondary school setting
- Flexibility and a team-oriented work ethic
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Fluency in Vietnamese or Mandarin
Preferred Qualifications
- Louisiana Certification in Vietnamese or Mandarin
- Three or more years of teaching experience in an urban school setting
- Experience differentiating instruction and supporting students with learning challenges
- Knowledge of or interest in French language and culture
Role and Responsibilities
The duties of the Vietnamese/Mandarin Teacher include, but are not limited to:
- Instruction: Providing instruction to middle school students, supporting instructional processes, and aligning with school-wide initiatives. Gathering student data and designing strategies to meet student needs. Staying current with Louisiana Student Standards and participating in professional development.
- Assessment: Conducting formative and summative assessments, maintaining accurate grade books, tracking data, and conducting benchmark assessments.
- Other Duties: Communicating effectively with staff and parents, participating in SAT meetings, supporting positive behavior initiatives, participating in faculty meetings, assisting with orientation and open houses, modeling non-discriminatory practices, and following staff policies.
- Community-Based Learning: Assisting in delivering curriculum that leverages community resources to enrich student learning experiences.
