Education:

• Bachelor's (BS)/Master's (MS) in Civil/Structural Engineering. (Must be from ABET Certified Institution).

Required License:

• PE Structural Engineering licensed to practice in Louisiana.

Required Skills for the Civil/Structural Engineer:

• 10 or more years of relevant Civil / Structural Engineering working in a chemical plant or refinery setting.

• Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)

• Expertise with civil/structural analysis software including operating and interpreting results. Experience with Staad Pro License preferred.

• Knowledge of the discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.

• Proficiency with MS Office products

• Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team

• Knowledge and application of company business standards and good practices

The Civil/Structural Engineer role is a critical part of the Engineering and Construction organization. The overall function of the Civil/Structural Engineer is to provide civil and structural engineering support to the Site Engineering and Construction group to complete capital project work. The Civil Structural Engineer is responsible for the creation of drawings and specifications, perform calculations, review the work of other engineers/drafters, write reports and evaluations, and observe construction sites.

They will also be the primary contact with the State Fire Marshal and is responsible for the coordination of the submission and inspection of any new occupied buildings or fire alarm or suppression changes. The Civil Structural Engineer requires work at a high level of independence with authority for decision-making on daily work assignment and control. Work at this level requires extensive experience in civil and structural engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.

• Familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.

• Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.

• Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.

• Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient use by drafters/designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.
