Ready to build a rewarding career in Safety? We are seeking a Personal Safety Professional (PSP) located in Garyville. The selected PSP will provide safety oversight and support for Marathon Marine locations and boats, including the Lower Mississippi, ICW (Intracoastal Waterway), Texas City, local shipyards, and all MPC docks. The role closely works with Marine Leadership and Operations to achieve safety goals and objectives.
The PSP will be involved in day‑to‑day operational activities and vessel outage work to ensure the safety of all personnel and contractors, and will participate in monthly safety meetings, project review activities, safety training, and audits. The position may also support safety program management and will participate in emergency response events and drills. Weekly travel is expected, with approximately 40% overnight travel.
As a member of the Marine HES&S team, the Personal Safety Professional will oversee and implement safety and health‑related programs, directly supporting boats and shoreside personnel in the Garyville and Texas City areas, including locations in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Responsibilities- Serve as the SME for all safety programs for the coverage area, acting as a cultural influencer regarding Behavior Based Safety, leadership engagement, and the Elite Safety Leader journey.
- Engage in vessel outage work by reviewing and approving Commissioning, Decommissioning, and Recommissioning Plans, Management of Change, Energy Isolation, and other safety support plans; support Safety programs in execution of field work.
- Provide direction and safety support, ensuring safety programs and processes drive continuous safety performance improvement.
- Compile organizational safety metrics, analyze data, and identify processes and programs to mitigate safety and health risks.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and MPC safety requirements, providing quality guidance on all Health, Safety, and Security regulatory compliance matters.
- Respond to emergency response events and serve within the incident command structure (ICS) to provide air monitoring, develop health and safety plans, and take other actions as needed.
- Participate in monthly safety meetings and assist operations in continuously improving their safety meetings.
- Contribute to organizational and company health and safety strategy; routinely plan, monitor, audit critical safety procedures (hot work, confined space, excavation, energy control, etc.), and provide immediate feedback to employees and management.
- Implement safety and health programs and design safety strategies focused on incident prevention and risk reduction.
- Provide leadership and guidance on all safety and health programs, ensuring proper oversight and management (life‑critical programs, safety leadership, hazard recognition, contractor safety management, occupational injury and illness reporting, and management).
- Assist in incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Act as a liaison to the Coast Guard.
- High school diploma or GED with 5+ years towboat experience as Deckhand, Mate, or Engineer, or Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.

- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong Marine, Oil & Gas Operations, or safety background.
- Current or past Tankmen’s License.
