Inmate classification is conducted through a structured reception and review process that assesses each individual’s security level, custody requirements, and program needs to ensure appropriate housing and rehabilitation planning.

Three years of experience in offender records analysis, offender classification, offender pre‑classification, security, or social services or as a probation or parole officer; OR

Six years of full‑time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full‑time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

• Address inmate concerns.
• Classify inmates based on their history and biographical data.
• Ensure inmates are properly housed and given appropriate work assignments.

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
• This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
