Under the direction and supervision of the Environmental Office Chief, the Senior Environmental Planner coordinates management level interaction with the project development team (PDT) and other stakeholders on matters pertaining to project development and compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and policies for the Last Chance Grade (LCG) project. The incumbent ensures proactive, consistent approaches to requirements, submittals, and coordination; capable of independent judgment and comprehensive input;
provides dedicated, constant attention to LCG project delivery issues, and allows for prompt, well-informed responses when issues arise. In this capacity, the incumbent facilitates partnerships with state and federal resource agencies, external stakeholders, coordinates environmental project deliverables, and promotes efforts to streamline the environmental process. The incumbent also helps in the development of project mitigation opportunities and assists with contract management and oversight of consultant-prepared documents.

Working ConditionsPosition located at 1656 Union Street, Eureka, Humboldt County. While at your base of operation, you will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting in a North Region office. Frequent travel and field work are required within the Region. Some fieldwork requires the ability to work in a variety of climatic and geographical conditions. You may be required to travel to offices and field locations throughout the North Region, as well as occasional travel outside of the Region.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate must commute to the headquarters location as needed to meet operational needs.
Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquarters location will be the responsibility of the candidate.
