This position has a Special Entrance Rate at each level:

  • Corrections Cadet: $17.50 per hour
  • Corrections Sergeant: $18.80 per hour
  • Corrections Sergeant-Master: $20.11 per hour

There is Premium Pay for this position:

A rate between $.50 and $1.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.


Position Specific Duties
:

  • Six-week Correctional Officer Training Academy.
  • Work closely with inmates incarcerated in a State prison facility.
  • Primarily responsible for the custody and security of inmates — in facility buildings, prison dorms, workshops, and/or fields.
  • Supervise housekeeping of inmate housing areas, escort prisoners, investigate suspicious activities, and perform in-depth security searches/shakedowns of inmate’s person, property, living quarters, and work locations.
  • Supervise inmate work crews, patrol areas of the prison, and transport inmates as assigned.
  • Follow directions given by higher-level officers, departmental policies, and regulations.
  • Will receive firearms training.


INCENTIVE PAY
:
Eligible for additional pay increase after becoming permanent for having an Associate Degree or a Baccalaureate Degree in specified fields from an accredited institution.


Career Progression
:

  • Start as a Corrections Cadet. (May start as a Corrections Sergeant with qualifying experience.)
  • Eligible for reallocation to Corrections Sergeant after 6 months.
  • Eligible for reallocation to Corrections Sergeant-Master after one year.
  • With 2 years of experience and permanent status, eligible to apply for promotion to Corrections Lieutenant.

SALARY DEPENDS ON LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE

  • Vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Cadet, Sergeant, or Sergeant-Master depending on experience.
  • The maximum salary for Corrections Sergeant-Master is $70,845.00 annually.

This position may be filled as a Temporary Job Appointment. Conversion to a permanent position may occur.

  • No Civil Service Test Score required.
  • Verification of degrees, licenses, or DD-214 required before hire.
