responsibilities
under close supervision, inspects and reviews ongoing construction in the local historic districts for compliance with historic district design guidelines and approved plans. Assist with processing violations, and administrative adjudication. Provide professional and technical assistance to the historic districts landmarks commission and vieux carre commissions; related work as required.
qualifications- bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of full‑time experience in architecture or building construction involving inspection, drafting, designing or building. Additional experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
- or: a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and an active certification by the international code council (icc) as a residential building inspector.
- or: a master’s degree in architecture, engineering, historic preservation, or construction technology from an accredited college or university.
- prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and certifications claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
note: if appointed, employee must be certified by the international code council (icc) as a residential building inspector during the probationary period. No probationary period may last longer than one year. If employees are not certified by icc during their probationary period, they will be terminated and must wait one year from the end of their probationary period or receive certification to be considered for rehire.
note: applicants hired into this job classification between april 1, 2025 and march 31, 2027 are exempted from the requirement to reside in orleans parish.
a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
