Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security, plus one of the following:
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED; or
- One year of experience in any field; or
- Six months of law‑enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
Special Requirements:
- An applicant convicted of a misdemeanor domestic‑violence crime or a felony, or currently indicted, is disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
- Under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), applicants who have engaged in any form of sexual abuse or coerced sexual activity are disqualified.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a current driver’s license.
- Supervise correctional officers.
- Ensure the safety and security of the correctional facility.
- Oversee daily operations of the assigned unit, enforce rules, and maintain order.
- Manage inmate activities.
- Appointment type:
Probationary or promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana State employee. - Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
- An employee selected for promotion may need to serve a trial detail prior to permanent promotion.
- This posting may also fill a vacancy as a temporary appointment. If filled as temporary, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment when a permanent position becomes available.
Special Entrance Rate: $23.03 per hour.
Premium Pay: Additional $0.50 to $1.00 per hour based on years of service with DOC, on top of regular pay.

- All degrees, certificates, licenses, and DD‑214 must be verified by official documentation before hire.
- College‑credit experience must be accompanied by a transcript for verification.
- This is a 24‑hour facility.
